The Choice is Yours
Sunday, September 10, 2006

Extract From ST- 09 Sep 06

Do not leave life to fate simply cuz you are afraid to make the wrong decision.

Life is simply a sum total of the choices you have made. Someone said: You are free to choose, but the choices you make today will determine what you will have, be and do in the tommorrow of your life.

Choice of career, spouse, investment, and the list goes on...

Is it by Instinct or Gut Feeling or do you actually analyse the important decisions of your life. Or do you get so paralysed by the fear of making the wrong decision that you simply abdicate from any responsibilty and just leave it to fate?

Were we taught to make choices in school? Or were we taught the safe route, to life with compromise, as you would have plenty of that? For those looking for a job, or perhaps at a crossroads as to which direction to take, here are some thoughts on what not to do when making choices:

Do not attempt to weigh all options.
Do not make a "pros" and "cons" list for each option and then set about analysing what is the best thing to do. In the end, you will end up more confused then where you started off!

Do not think of all the things you do not want.
When thinking about what career to go into for example, do not waste time thinking what you do not want to be doing. Instead, focus on what you want to do and what job is ideal for you. As the saying goes: " what you focus on will expand" So, do not focus on solving problems.

Focus on what you want.
Instead, use a creative approach-think about what you want in life and focus on that how to create it.

Make Primary choices.
These are choice you make to get major results. Eg: I choose to be financially free in five years time.

Make Secondary choices.
These are choices that helps you take a step towards your primary choices. It can be a choice to be financially free to build a second source of income or set aside money for investment.

Schools do not teach you how to make choices in life, but it is a skill that can be learnt and once mastered, can help you live the life of your dreams.
